How you can be sure you are saved from God's wrath against sin?
by EJD
Do these things:
- Admit that you are a sinner!
- The Scripture is clear about the fact that everyone is a sinner, whether you are Jewish (Daniel 9:11) or Non-Jewish (Romans 3:23). Jeremiah the Prophet, by divine prognosis, revealed the condition of the human heart: "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). Jesus agreed with that observation (Mark 7:21-23.
- Acknowledge God's wrath against sin!
- The Scripture warns about the danger of dying in sin: ".....the soul that sins it shall die" (Ezekiel 18:4). This cannot be physical death, since both they who have been made righteous by God and those who remain in their sins, die a physical death. It is the eternal death at Judgment Day: (Revelation 20:11-15).
- Agree that you cannot save yourself!
- The Scripture contrasts the folly of self-justification with the sure foundation of God's righteouness received by faith: (Romans 3:20-22). Trying to fulfill God's law revealed at Mt. Sinai is a vain attempt. You must keep it all or you don't keep it at all: "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10). Israel's attempt at it didn't work either: (Romans 10:1-4).
- Believe in the power of the Gospel to save you!
- The Scripture testifies to the wonderous saving power of faith in Christ: "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1). The gospel simply means "Good News." There are three key elements:
- Christ died for our sins.
- Christ was buried.
- Christ arose from the dead.
These elements were necessary to make it possible for us to be saved. The fact of Christ's death, buriel and resurrection cannot be altered or undone. This is a fact of history. This means that salvation is rooted in an indestructible event of history. What God did then is like God's nature: eternal and without change.
- Receive Mashiach (Christ) to be saved!
- The Scripture invites sinners to be saved. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave power to become the sons of God" (John 1:12). Jesus said: "Come unto me, all of you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart and you shall find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:28-30). You will have a new life and new power to live as you could never live without Christ: (2 Corinthians 5:17-21).
- Pray right now!
- In your own words something like this: "God, I know I am a sinner. I know I can't save myself. I know that Jesus Christ paid the price for my salvation. Thank you, for sending Jesus to die in my place. Jesus, I now receive you into my heart and please wash away all my sins by your precious blood, in Jesus' name, Amen!"
