The weekly reading for the week of 9 Kislev, 5766 - December 10, 2005 Parashah: Vayetzei Genesis 28:10 to 32:3(2); Haftarah: Hosea 11:7 to 14:10(9); Mei Kituvim: Daniel 6:1-28; Brit Chadashah: John 1:35-51

Parashah Lite Edition (Focuses on one verse or idea anywhere in the readings.)
The Bagel: Don't mess with lions.
"So I am to them like a lion....I will tear open their breast, and there I will devour them like a lion, as a wild beast would rip them open" (Hosea 13:7-8).
Adonay can be like a devouring lion. Sin is what can make Him ferocious if it is too much or held on to for too long a time. There will be a lot of surprises in heaven by those who thought of G-d as some sort of Santa Claus G-d who dispenses forgiveness like Kris Kringle distributes toys. Adonay is a deity to be reckoned with. The latest movie "Narnia" coincides with this week's readings in the above verses. Narnia is the story about a lion in another world who overcomes the power of the White Witch. This lion exhibits Chesed - loving kindness and mercy to those who come to him on his terms of humility. But on his enemies he tears them apart. As mr beaver said to the children: "He isn't safe!....But he's good!" If you have a chance, be sure to see this movie: "Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. This may help to make the black letters of the text, become fiery letters. You'll see in this Lion characteristics of Adonay that is filled with Chesed, but dangerous to those on the wrong side. He is just like Yeshua.
Cream Cheese: The Lion's claws can scrape away scales of the ugliness of sin and it hurts, but the end is a deep beauty exposed and recovered.
